nuzlocke day 6

* Ugh, my Happiny fainted. I forgot it was Normal-type and not Fairy (I always get confused between the Chansey line and the Clefairy line) and let it get hit by a Meditite with a supereffective Fighting move.
* I did get almost everyone grinded up to level 30 though, and headed along Route 215 toward Veilstone City.
* I feel like at some point I'm going to un-nuzlocke this project before the postgame, like if I lose too many pokemon or the wrong ones, or just if I get too scared. I'm definitely going into the Elite Four with plenty of revives just in case I do start losing pokemon and have to make that decision. I mean, that's a ways down the line since I have six badges to go before then, but I am pondering.
* Veilstone is where you get both the big department store that sells TMs and the clothing store that sells outfits your character can change into. I ought to be saving my money to give myself the best chance of winning battles, but I do always have a weak spot for outfits. Of course my favorite outfit is the one that costs 120k pokedollars when you get roughly 1k per battle, or 2k with the Amulet Coin...
* My Kadabra would have got oneshot but survived on 1hp due to a mechanic where pokemon with high friendship can randomly get critical hits, dodges, and 1hp survivals because they don't want you to be sad. I really don't know whether that should count as survival or not for nuzlocke purposes -- it's a recently introduced mechanic and a lot of pokemon purists vocally dislike it. I think I'll stick him in the "retired/graveyard" box for now and see if I change my mind later?
* The next story step is helping the Professor's kid assistant (who took the third starter that neither you nor your rival took) battle some Team Galactic grunts in order to get the Fly TM and travel move, which lets you teleport to cities you've visited. (Confusingly, the move Teleport only lets you teleport back to the most recent Pokemon Center you visited.)
* I think the next actual big battle is the fourth gym leader, Crasher Wake, the Water gym, who has a Quagsire that can kick the ass of any Electric type you bring in, due to being dual-typed Ground and therefore immune to Electric, but it's four times weak to Grass, so my turtle should be able to handle it nicely.
* Crasher Wake's ace is also level 30, but I nearly lost my Ponyta to Maylene's Lucario at even level, so I don't know if I want to start overleveling more.
* I should probably be planning ahead for the next big battle after Crasher Wake... Barry shows up with a level 31 ace after you beat Crasher Wake, I should probably plan to be ready for him. Starly, Buizel, Roselia, and Monferno... my Luxray should be able to take the first two. Roselia is weak to Fire, Ice, Flying, or Psychic, so I could use Staravia or Ponyta there, and my Gyarados can tackle Monferno. Or I could use Psyduck for both Roselia and Monferno, that would be funny.
* I don't remember if I have to fight another Team Galactic commander before Fantina. I'll figure it out.
* Okay, I've been watching an archived stream playthrough of the same games which is a little bit ahead of me in the story. After Crasher Wake you battle Barry, chase a Team Galactic grunt all the way to one of the lakefronts, meet Cynthia there and she gives you medicine to make the Psyducks move out of the way on Route 210 north of Solaceon Town so you can get to Celestic Town.
* First, though, I have to get to Pastoria City. There are two different routes you can take; if I want to unlock all the postgame content on this save, I need to clear all the trainers on every route, as some of them have rare pokemon and I need to see every pokemon in the Sinnoh pokedex in order to unlock the National Dex. I don't know if I want to bother, because this playthrough is on one of my alternate profiles just to see if I can beat it... maybe I'll just do the main story so I have the confidence to know I can beat the game, and then go do it on my main profile where I have the Pokemon Home paid subscription.
* Route 214: Ooh, I can get a Stunky or a Girafarig here. Stunky would be more useful, I think, but I could probably figure out how to use a Farigiraf too.
* Ruin Maniac's Cave has a 5% chance of Hippopotas, which increases to 10% if I catch ten different forms of Unown and to 20% if I catch all 26. I've already done a complete Unown alphabet twice, I'd rather grind dozens of Geodudes than do it a third time. I'm going to be so overleveled either way though.
Geodudes knocked out: 11
* Hippopotas caught! I named it Ahmed. That's a pure Ground type, so I'm going to level it up -- Ground and Fire types are pretty scarce in this game.
* Stunky caught! I named her Adorabelle. I remembered Psyduck will be weak to Roselia because it's Water, so now my current party is Luxray and Turtwig (for Crasher Wake), Gyarados (for Monferno), Ponyta (for Roselia), Hippopotas and Stunky (to level).
* On Valor Lakefront, the only thing I haven't caught is Girafarig, so it's good that I just got Stunky earlier.
* It's two in the morning, I'll catch Girafarig later.
