[sticky entry] Sticky: Askbox

So this sticky entry serves the function of a tumblr askbox. Comments are screened (invisible to everyone but me and the person who posted the comment). Let me know if you want your "ask" to be answered privately or publicly. If publicly, I'll make a post and link you to the post in a reply to your comment; if privately, I'll just answer the comment, and my answer will also be screened so only you and I can see it.

(For some reason dropping questions/comments in an askbox feels a lot less... socially intrusive than sending a message. I have absolutely no idea why.)

[sticky entry] Sticky: give me art prompts

So! As so often happens, I am once again trying to practice drawing. I have pencils and a sketchbook. What I would like is PROMPTS. I'm putting this here as Dreamwidth is my most stable platform for linking things, but I'll be signal boosting it on Tumblr and on my current fandom's Discord. Feel free to signal boost anywhere else if you know people who might be interested.

The basics: I'd like fanart prompts for my current fandom, which is the Star Wars Legends X-wing / Rogue Squadron books and comics. Any scene from canon or fic (yours or someone else's), or just a basic prompt. I have a big post of prompts here if you're not feeling inspired.

Where to request: Comment here or on my sticky askbox post, or send me a tumblr ask, or just toss a request at me in the Discord and I'll make a note.

The limitations: Fab Four (Wedge, Tycho, Wes, Hobbie) preferred, now that I have my photo references for all of them sorted out. I'll also try OT Big Three (Luke, Leia, Han), since I know we have some Luke/Wedge shippers in here, but I don't want to get too scattered, so I'll keep it to those seven characters for now. No guarantees on quality or timeframe, but you probably knew that. ;-) This will probably be just pencil sketches for now, I tend to get overwhelmed when I add color media. And I'm gonna say no NSFW for now.

Other notes: Modern AU is fine - pretty much any AU is fine really, I have lots of reference for clothing from all eras and I could use the practice drawing it. Kisses and complicated poses are fine, but keep in mind I never have figured out drawing three-quarter view. On the other hand, I really would prefer requests of a specific scene / moment from a fic or from canon, because then I already have it pictured in my head and I don't have to make as many decisions. (Unpublished / unwritten fic is fine if you can describe the scene or give me a snippet.)

iv port did become infected. pcp's office called this morning like "uhhh we got a notice you were released from hospital? do you want a followup visit" and i was like "hell yeah that'll save me a trip to urgent care" and now i have antibiotics

there's a Difficulty with my test strips prescription but i don't have enough brain to explain it

my blood sugar has been over 250 since breakfast despite me being very careful to follow all my insulin instructions to the letter. i am somewhat distressed and have not yet eaten lunch because getting a bad grade in blood sugar always triggers my anorexia, but a friend bought me a doordash gift card as congratulations for not dying so i have wendy's on the way. i am pleased that my diabetic diet not only allows but *instructs* me to eat 45g-60g of carbs per meal, not more but also not less, and therefore i can have a baconator and a ten-piece of chicken nuggets and still have room for dipping sauce.

(this is probably not helping my cholesterol. right now however i simply do not have the bandwidth to give a flying fuck about my cholesterol. i'm on two meds for it and either those will suffice or they won't. acquiring food i will eat takes precedence)

tomorrow i must depart the house yet again and try to see, optimally, an orthopedist and then a cardiologist. i am doubtful i can manage both but i will try. i cannot do the cardiologist first because he wants to put a metal sticker on my chest to track my tachycardia and i suspect the ortho will want an mri of my back, which is contraindicated if i have a metal heart monitor sticker on. (my cgm thankfully is reported to be mri safe.)

i also can't take painkillers right now, or i feel it would be unwise, because the hospital had me on blood thinners as is standard procedure when you're immobile in a bed so you don't get the leg blood clots and catch a stroke, and i'm massively bruised up and want my blood to stop being thin as soon as possible. so i am feeling rather like somebody put me through a spin cycle with dryer balls

i am out of hospital

there was a stabbed guy in front of the cvs (somebody else called 911)

i have insulin and a laminated chart about what to do with it

my arms and hands are absolutely covered in bruises from blood draws and my iv port is thinking real hard about whether it wants to become infected

there was a recall on my test strips prescription

i have to go back on wednesday and try to ACTUALLY see the orthopedic surgeon i was originally attempting to see in the first place

but first a bath
thedarlingone: Illya Kuryakin smiling, captioned "BOOM" in capital letters (illya boom)
i haven't seen the orthopedic surgeon yet. i was on the bus to the appointment when i had a massive attack of dizziness, nausea, tachycardia, and shortness of breath (i did manage not to actually throw up on the bus, thankfully). helpfully, the appointment was at a hospital complex, so i simply went to the emergency room instead and asked them to check if i was having a heart attack.

i was not having a heart attack. text )

anyway. not dead. somewhat bored. less covered in tubes than previously. hoping i get out of the hospital in time for my rescheduled orthopedist appointment monday, but knowing how long anything in a hospital takes, i suspect i may need to reschedule again.
thedarlingone: Jimmy Stewart in Philadelphia Story, captioned "this is the voice of doom calling" (voice of doom)
i have an appointment to see an orthopedic surgeon on wednesday (they also diagnose and treat things nonsurgically if all i need is a brace or some shots into my joints, which i would prefer. hypothetical worst case scenario is a double hip replacement before i'm forty, but i am ignoring that possibility in favor of learning about all the milder things that can cause lower back pain)

i also saw a podiatrist today -- the numbness and beginning neuropathy i had in my feet a couple years ago has totally cleared up which is really nice, i have some water retention in my ankles but this is probably because guess what my circulation is shite because I Cannot Exercise. i am told i may not be able to get new diabetic shoes and orthotics paid for by medicaid because they're assholes about it (mine are a couple years old and should probably be replaced) but i am also told to call a specific other podiatrist who specializes in hassling them about it, and inquire if he hassles my specific form of medicaid.

this however i will not be doing until after i see the orthopedist, because frankly it's already quite reckless of me to try to make two separate bus expeditions in a single week but the podiatrist was easier to get ahold of than the orthopedist so i wound up scheduling her first. and scheduling a pap smear next monday which will likely knock me out for a large part of that week. so i absolutely have to have the rest of the week free in case i need to go get an mri (would not surprise me) or get fitted for a brace or something.

(considering that each previous bus expedition of about this length has had me on my back for the next three days i'm still vastly overdoing it but i'm desperate to get to the part where i find out if i can actually start traveling *without* being laid out for the next three days with back pain.)
thedarlingone: text reads "if I give you a hint and tell you it's a hint it will be information" (hint information)
i have seen my pcp. i have referrals to a bunch of specialists (endocrinologist, pulmonologist, podiatrist, ophthalmologist, gynecologist, cardiologist), i have had my blood drawn to see how my meds need adjusted (my a1c and cholesterol are probably horrendous since i've been off those meds for most of a year), i have had an ekg for tachycardia because my pulse rate was stuck around 130 (it came back with no obvious abnormalities other than being stupid fast, hence the cardiologist referral), and most importantly i have had my back x-rayed to see if i have any slipped discs or anything similar causing my back pain.

preliminary results on the x-rays say everything looks normal. (i am unsurprised, previous imaging hasn't found anything either.) pcp will decide on wednesday at my telemed followup whether to refer me to physical therapy or an orthopedic specialist. i am hoping for the specialist because i have had pt for my back twice already and none of the exercises or stretches seem to be helping (i did tell my pcp this so hopefully it works out.)

my corset pattern also arrives wednesday or thursday but if i get a referral to an orthopedist i'll probably hold off on any further corsetry expenses until i find out whether i get prescribed something like a medical back brace covered by insurance. (if it is my sacroiliac joints being the problem, one treatment is a special hip-and-back brace that my medicaid apparently covers at 2 per year.) probably still going to cut it out and do a fitting with a paper mockup though because i like to know my options.

now i am being flat on a heating pad for 3-4 business days until i recover from the being vertical for four hours straight. this is so fucking stupid.

One problem with sorting my music is I can't do it at the same time as anything else or I'll simply zone out and stop noticing the music enough to process any of it.

I think that's about enough music listening for me for one day. There are so many more D songs to get through, but I'm burning out.

Next up I have four versions of Dark As a Dungeon, and I don't think I have the energy to compare all those tonight. But I got all the way through the letter C and into D, and the total playlist length stands at 90.5 hours with 8 hours of that being music I've reviewed and kept... progress?
thedarlingone: cat drawing captioned "one day things will get better, until then here is a drawing of a cat" (things will get better)
Okay, where did I leave this off before? "Bluenose", apparently. (You see why I need to write these things down.)

Okay, I went and cleared those out, plus some more duplicates I'm sure of (there are so many more duplicates I have to actually check by ear). That brings us down to 93 hours of music, of which I'm almost six hours in. It's nearly midnight here; I think I'll wrap it up and go to bed. Next on the list is two versions of Bridge Over Troubled Water, the Simon & Garfunkel version and a Johnny Cash cover.

okay, where did I leave off... right, Big Band Hits of the '30s, for which Sovay has helped me identify the correct artist but I do not have the energy right now to match instrumental tracks by ear. I can tackle that at some other point.

Okay, let's see if I can get slightly further into the letter A. (I should probably be tagging these posts or something but I'll worry about that later. Titling them's a start, anyway.)

I'm going to cut it there because I have an appointment soon. I'm down to 105 hours left (I went through last night and removed a bunch of duplicated files where some albums had gotten double copied for some reason; there are a bunch more duplicates and files I need to compare to find out whether they're different, so the number will probably keep going down faster than I actually listen through everything).
thedarlingone: Jack O'Neill very grubby captioned "passin out again brb" (passin out again)
I have over 2100 music files in my VLC. Some of them are duplicates, but given that I got through significantly less than 20 in the previous post, we're going to be here a while. This is why I've never gotten all the way through reviewing my music collection.

I think I'm going to call it for the night, looking down the list isn't a ton of stuff I'm excited about for a ways and my earbuds are going to die soon. We're down to about 116 hours left, that's progress of a sort? Jesus. How do I have so much music.

(And then VQ recommended I should check out Hozier and Orville Peck as being similar to artists I enjoy, and Leia sent me a bunch of Orville Peck links and I got distracted listening to those, so I'll cut this post here and probably continue later. So far my opinion there is Orville Peck has a very articulate voice that's easy to understand without having to read the lyrics along, which is an important starting point for me.)

MY MUSIC

IT IS BACK

*ahem*

guess who finally retrieved all my old music backups off my old laptop after almost two full years without most of it

i now have over 8GB of music on my phone's SD card and need to sort through it

this is a struggle as you might imagine because my auditory processing is very limited (for instance in the animal crossings the only way i can really tell one kk slider song from another is if i have gyroids dancing to it, the visual representation of the beat actually helps me follow the sounds better) and i burn out very fast

so i am thinking. that i might write down my opinion of each song here on my blog. some of these i don't really even remember why i have them. so it's like, *basically* i am going for three categories: songs for phone (I don't do a lot in the way of playlists so this is songs I am generally happy to have come up on shuffle at any time), songs for computer (I like having them available but for instance I am at many times not in the mood for the Ballad of Ira Hayes), songs to delete (I am generally very hesitant to delete anything, especially because I know I may feel very differently about a song when I'm in a different mood, so this is hard and I usually wind up with folders of songs I don't really *want* but have not committed to deleting).

1: Grab the nearest book.

3: The 6th full sentence is your life in 2026.

I only have a couple of physical books in my room right now and the closest one was the knitting pattern book that serves as my mousepad support, so the sentence in question is "Alternatively, work them in a row on a simple background as on design no. 155 (Blue and White Pots) on page 65."

Honestly, if my bad shoulder will un-jank enough that I can knit more in 2026, that's a pretty good omen.
