Meme from
thisbluespirit: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all!). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favourite opening line.
Hm. Older to newer, or newer to older? Newer to older, I guess. These are all X-Wing fics, because that's what I write now.
1. Wes shifted uncomfortably on the thin straw-filled cushion that served his grimy cell for a mattress. (Every Fortress Falls)
2. Wes clambered back into the vacation cottage's big bed and snuggled up behind Hobbie, wrapping his arms around his partner's waist. (Spy versus Spy)
3. "What," Wes asked slowly and carefully. "The entire... kriffing... hells." (A Double Surprise)
4. Derek "Hobbie" Klivian (Capt., USMC, ret.), jingled his keys in his prosthetic hand as he strolled up the long, overgrown walk to his new... well, newly acquired house. (This Old House)
[...hmm. The trouble with this meme is, all my recent fic is co-written, and sometimes the first line is actually by
the_dour_one. Do I skip those, use my first line, or what? I think I'll skip. I'm kinda curious how far back I get if I'm only doing the ones where the first line is mine.]
5. Wes fidgeted with his spavat. (Love, Undercover)
6. Wes liked his farm on Taanab. (Taanab After Everything)
7. Wes clicked the binder cuffs into place around Hobbie's wrists. (The Pirate's Prisoner)
8. My favorite coffeeshop is crowded and bustling, as usual. (A Chill in the Air)
9. When the sky above Hosnian Prime lights up red, there's barely time to think. (Cataclysm)
10. "Well, I think we're about done here," Wedge says, gathering his datapads. (Liminal)
11. Even with most of the Rebel Alliance stationed there, the big stone hallways of Yavin IV's ancient temples were often deserted. (Escapees)
12. They've been chained up here for hours. (An Outlet)
13. "Give me my knife and I'll do it myself," I say evenly, meeting Wedge's gaze. (Shadow of Death)
14. The hot Taanabian sun shone high in the sky. (Summertime)
15. His fingers are too numb to feel Hobbie's pulse anymore. (Waiting)
16. "Blergh!" Mirax gives Wes a baleful look, then eyes the glass suspiciously. (A Kiss... As a Lie)
17. There were people in his bed. (Center of Our World)
18. "You realize," Admiral Ackbar says, "that if Isard has indeed infected the Rogues with a disease such as the Krytos plague, joining your… friends... in quarantine might well mean your own death." (Homecoming)
19. I'm not jealous. (there's just no percentage in remembering the past)
20. “Leia’s a grown woman,” Wedge pointed out. (Selling Out)
Patterns... I tend to start with either something short and snappy or something that sets the whole scene in a sentence. As far as favorites, I think "There were people in his bed" is still my own favorite.
