thedarlingoneI've been rereading a bunch of DWJ off and on as it comes in at the library. Today was Castle in the Air (I remembered most of how it goes this time; I first read a lot of DWJ while not forming memories so it's always an adventure whether I'll remember any of it or not) and The Homeward Bounders.
I seem to recall someone saying something I can't quite remember about Jamie being generally considered one of the less likable protagonists, or more exasperating or something... I can't remember exactly what was said, but I was so confused that I couldn't even remember who Jamie was and had to ask. (He's the protagonist of Homeward Bounders.) I mean, I did read it for the first time right at the beginning of my own wanderings, but it still puzzles me that he would be considered especially annoying or whatever it was they said. He's just accurate. He's no more overconfident than Christopher Chant, no more abrasive than Sophie Hatter... he's simply what happens when you lose the capability to have a home.
Anyway, yeah, I have feelings about Jamie. For obvious reasons.

Date: 2025-04-19 01:52 am (UTC)Homeward Bounders is possibly my second favourite of DWJ works, and possibly the saddest of the ones I remember. I don't remember the characters being any different from any of their other books.
