One nice thing about having to do all this very slow DIY hunting, at least, is that I get really excited whenever I do get anything at all I didn't have. I moved Cephalobot in and he just gave me a recipe for golden gears, which I needed, and then I got the golden garden bunny from a beach bottle.

I really haven't had much luck getting new recipes from amiibo villagers lately; I know it's possible, I've done it in the past, but both the smug villagers I tried seemed to get stuck in this weird little loop, so I'm wondering if there's coding where they can only ask for certain recipes while in the campsite, so you don't have to craft them an entire golden casket or something. I've never seen anything like that in the datamines, but I know there are parts of this game that just aren't well understood.

I'm thinking I might cycle in all the villagers of a certain personality that I have amiibo for until I polish off their DIYs. I've been holding back one of each personality so I can do the daily campsite trick, but it doesn't seem to be working.

Currently I have ten villagers, which is the maximum possible. I started to list them here and then started rambling about amiibo instead, which are Nintendo's version of those NFC whatsits you scan into your game to make certain things happen.

I keep thinking about ordering more faked amiibo cards off Etsy or eBay when I have money -- they're cheap to make if you have the setup, and indistinguishable from the real thing as far as the game is concerned, so it's a constant cycle of Nintendo playing C&D whack-a-mole with the shops. But there are supposed to be new Zelda amiibo launching in June, so I'm kind of putting off ordering amiibo cards until those become available, since there's usually a bulk discount and most shops that do Animal Crossing amiibo fakes offer all other Nintendo amiibo types, or at least a broad selection like Zelda and Mario.

Also I really struggle to decide which villagers I like enough to spend real money on having them constantly available to me. I have a bunch of real amiibo cards Leia got as duplicates out of the blindbox packs, which is the only way to buy them legitimately (I fucking refuse to encourage blindbox bullshit myself but I'm not turning down free amiibo), and five fake ones.

Villagers I currently have on my island are:

* Poppy the normal red squirrel, who's absolutely adorable, has one of my favorite house interiors in the entire game, and I don't have her amiibo, so I'm definitely keeping her around permanently. She's top of my list to buy her amiibo card whenever I get around to doing that.

Poppy is my only normal-personality villager right now, but this is because I like too many of the others to decide. I have a slight problem with normal villagers, I like almost all of them. Apparently when it comes to chibi-style anthro animals I have a Type and it is very pretty feminine girls. I was trying to have an all-girls island when I first started playing the game back in 2021, until I found out that a lot of stuff is locked behind having villagers of a specific personality type. Another reason to go completionist: once I have everything I need from all my male villagers, I'm definitely letting them move out and building the lesbian island of my dreams. XD

(My island is not named Lesbos. It's named Taanab for Star Wars reasons.)

* Diana the snooty white deer. Very pretty, one of my two favorite designs for snooty villagers. I also don't have her amiibo, because I was trying to have only one of each species and I like Fuchsia's design slightly more.

* Octavian the cranky red octopus. All four octopode villagers have amazing punny names: there's Octavian, Zucker, Marina (the only girl octopus), and Cephalobot who's also a robot. I don't have Octavian's amiibo but he's not one of my favorites, I just took him because I needed a cranky villager and he's tolerable. (Also I think I had all three of the other octopodes at the time and it amused me.) I'll be letting him move out once I have all the cranky recipes.

* Dom the jock sheep. I honestly don't remember why I have his amiibo card instead of Genji the martial-arts-theme jock rabbit; Genji is another one I really want to order, even though he wouldn't really fit on lesbian island. Dom is my only jock, so he's staying until he gives me the three final jock recipes I need. (Please, Dom, my house isn't complete without the fossil doorplate.)

* Sasha the lazy aqua rabbit. Very very pretty, but I do have his amiibo card so I can get him back whenever. Also his house bugs me -- he's one of the sixteen villagers added in the 2.0 update, and they took a lot of inspiration from the clever ways actual people had been decorating, which works great in some areas, but makes Sasha's house layout specifically feel... too realistic? Too asymmetrical? Maybe just too YouTube, lol.

* Agnes the uchi / sisterly / butch black-and-white pig. I don't have her amiibo card because her design is so simple I worried I'd get tired of her, but I haven't yet. She wears a cute striped halter dress that I want but it hasn't come into stock at Able Sisters yet.

* Flora the peppy pink flamingo. She was the RNG peppy villager assigned to my very first island when it auto-populated some of the villagers (as it does if you follow what the game tells you to do instead of carefully manipulating the RNG), and I'm so attached to her now that I just feel weird having any other peppy villager around to call me "bestie", even though there are a lot of gorgeous peppy villagers I'd otherwise love to have on my island.

* Cephalobot the smug robot octopus, whom I just moved in. His house is designed like a spaceship bridge, which is one of the 2.0 designs I really love.

* Lopez the smug antelope/gazelle. I love when they design the villagers after exact species of animal rather than just the generic anthro... like, there are a bunch of birds with the same basic body plan as Flora, but she's the only flamingo, and there are a couple ostriches (one's a robot) and at least one phoenix and some others. The deer get a good showing in that regard, there are at least two different species of antelope and even a moose. I don't have Lopez's amiibo because he was randomly assigned to this island -- you always get a randomly assigned smug villager during the ten days or so that the tutorial takes -- but I'm thinking about getting it because I love both his design and his house's design, which is sort of modern clean-lined style but full of warm wood colors instead of BH&G offwhite with a pop of beige. I would live in Lopez's house for real.

* And Fuchsia the magenta punk deer. I have her amiibo, so I can move her out and back in if I have to. Same for Flora, although I've *never* not had Flora and I'm not sure I'd play if she wasn't around. But I could probably survive without Fuchsia for a bit.

So anyway, the villagers I'm absolutely not kicking out are Poppy, Lopez, Agnes, and Diana. It might be smart to move in Apollo, the cranky bald eagle whose birthday is July 4; I own his amiibo because that's hilarious and he's my favorite cranky villager because of it. That'll give me a 20% chance for cranky DIYs from the daily crafting villager (technically there are up to three a day but I'm not waiting three hours or reloading the game to time travel within the same day when I could spend the reload time getting to the next day), and then once I have them all, I can kick Octavian and have more wiggle room to move other villagers in.

Yeah, I think kicking Fuchsia temporarily for Apollo is the move here.
